HOW TO FILM A THRILLER

Camera
In this shot thriller tim they used a various of different camera shots. Firstly they start off using a long shot which helps to set the scene of the location meaning that they don't have to wonder round showing the different areas of the place that they are in. They then use a handheld point of view shot making the movie seem more realistic and quite sinister because whatever this man witnesses we also get to view it. The we get a high angle shot of this man, showing that he is vulnerable and also a tracking shot to show that he might be in danger. Then we have a camera tilt which follows Matt showing that this young man might be in some type of endangerment later on. Afterwards we get a low angle shot of Matt showing that he is has power and he is no longer vulnerable. We also get a canted camera shots showing images of the different areas which makes it seem like someone is after him. Then they use a stedicam showing us the direction and the speed that Matt is running, making it seem that he is currently in a tense moment and he is scared and unguarded. Lastly we get a extreme close up of the eye, showing that all this time someone was watching Matt and where he was going, which overall makes the thriller come to life.

Editing
They also used a various different types of Editing in this thriller also. Firstly it begins with a cross dissolve editing which leaves out a part of the journey. So for example in stead of showing the whole journey it cuts half way saving the audience time. Then they change the colour balance of the film making it a sickly greenish colour matching the theme of the area he is located in, because at the moment he is located in a abandoned house. And it may also be sign of some sort of danger. Then we get a shot reverse shot of matt and whatever he is seeing. Then we get parallel edits of inside and outside, which creates some sort of suspense. Because it makes the audience feel as if the man is being currently watched. The pace of the editing the beings to vastly increase meaning that something unpleasant is about to happen, so jot builds up suspense.

Sound
In this thriller they also used a mix of different diegetic and non-digetic sound. So to being with they started with the diegetic sounds of the birds making the environment the is in seem calm and humble because it is a natural sound. The as Matt is about to enter the building the music changes from being calm and natural to being a sinister music, suggesting that there is something dangerous about ton occur. And as he walks deeper into the place the tone of the music gets deeper which then builds up suspense. We also get the diegetic sound of his feet splashing in the dripping sounds of water. Then the diegetic sound of the deep breathing makes it seem that something dangerous is about to occur and the build of suspense continues. The music then fades out and the stops and we get the natural sounds of the birds again, which changes the mood of the music.

Mise En Scene

The thriller was set in the countryside which is a open space where there is not that many people. It makes it seem like the place has been abandoned. Then it was set in a abounded fort, where nobody would usually visit.
