MISE EN SCENE

Mise-en-scene is a French term meaning "in the scene or frame".
The elements of the Mise en scene are;

1.     Settings and Props this is where the media will take place.
2.    Costume, hair and make up
3.    Facial expressions and body language this is where we all communicate through.
4.    Lighting and Colour
5.    Positioning of characters and objects in the frame. The positioning of objects and characters are very important.

The positioning of objects and characters can be in the foreground and, middle ground and background. This can emphasise the relative importance of a character.
Denotation and Connotation

Denotation is the literal description of an idea, concept or object
Connotation is what we associate with a particular idea, concept or object.

·      So for example the colour Red can be associated with love or danger. And the blue can be associated with the feeling of sadness.
·      This is because colour works on the subconscious mind to create a type of mood, which is occurring at that moment.
The setting is where the media text takes place, and the props are objects that we see in the setting.

When it comes to Facial expressions and Body language, this is where most actors communicate through. This can be particularly important in media text especially when it comes to close ups and extreme close ups.

Positioning of objects and characters are also very important. Objects and characters can be in the foreground, middle ground or background. This could be to emphasize the relativeness or importance of either the object or the character, which is why characters are positioned.

And also there is deep focus, which enables the audience to chose where to look. Both the background and the foreground are in focus.

So here as you can see in this image, you get the four main people and then the background of the image isn't in as much focus as the resr of the image. This shows us the most important points of the image.
